WriterWednesdays: Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was my first true love. I devoured his books, one by one, becoming increasingly inspired by his made-up words and his loveable, but different, characters.

The BFG and Matilda were two of my very most favorites, but all the Roald Dahl books are fascinating and incredible.

In fact, on the first book jacket of the first print of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, a critic was quoted stating that anyone who loves Roald Dahl would love Harry Potter. That alone is why my mom purchased me a hardback book (we always waited for paperback) and that alone is the reason I read Harry Potter before it was the thing to do.

I could enumerate Roald Dahl quotes until the cows come home, but here are four quotes (okay, maybe one is an excerpt), to get you started.

  1. I have been checking my book collection. I have sooooo many from all the years of buying for Rene and DJ. I found Matilda books and they were a favorite because they are pretty worn. DJ was one to reread books all the time. He LOVED Harry!!! I can’t wait for you to come and pick some of his books to keep in his memory!! PS I know he is so proud that you are writing!!!! He would say, YES!!! Of course, he would be grinning and waving his arms in an upward and downward motion, and finish it off by saying, “That is the shitz I am talking about!!” 😉
